Where Is Fife Located In Washington State?
Fife is located in the Puyallup Indian Reservation, about a 9-minute drive southeast from Tacoma. It’s also under an hour from Seattle, a reasonable travel time for the daily commuter.
The area where Fife sits is rich with ancient Native American history and agriculture. Many of the tribes that used to live in this land lived there for hundreds and even thousands of years. The local culture is also heavily influenced by immigrants from Switzerland, Italy, and Japan, among other countries.
If you’re a history buff or just want to learn more about Fife, you can visit the history museum located on 54th Avenue East. Their current exhibits (as of 2021) include Cultures of Fife and Fife Schools. The latter takes a deep dive into the history of the city’s educational past, beginning with its first one-room schoolhouse in 1899.

3. Admire Public Art Pieces
Fife’s art scene is passionate, grass roots effort begun by the Public Arts Commission. Over the years, the Commission has installed artwork throughout the city that reflects the local cultures, values, and artistry. As of 2021, the Commission’s most recent project was wrapping two utility boxes in gorgeous artwork; a simple yet brilliant gesture that brings new life and color to utilitarian city objects.

4. See The “Lemon” Train
See a piece of the railway history that is a hallmark of the Fife and Puget Sound area. Nicknamed a “lemon” because of its split generator/engine design, the Fife Engine and Caboose first started running in 1968. The engine is rare; only 26 were ever sold. In 2009, Fife acquired it and installed it as a permanent exhibit in the city with a fresh coat of lemon-colored paint. It’s a charming attraction, perfect for taking photos or just brightening up your day with its vibrant yellow hue.
